So I bought this old boy at a yard sale yesterday for a dollar. I've been googleing and ebaying and I can't find much info on this particular blade with the finger guard. It says "CA231-8" G CASE XX CHROMIUM" on the blade. What do you guys know about it? Did I pay too much?

Yep, you got took. I feel bad for you so I'll give you double your money for it. :) Nice blade!

Pay too much? really?
Well, that particular portion of my post was meant to be taken lightly. I am serious though when I say I don't know anything about it, so if you know something please share it with me. No matter how intuitive it might seem to yall knife gurus.

Maybe worth about $25-30? Looks like one of their chef's knives, cept that it has a guard. That might make it be worth more.

Case had an entire line of kitchen knives. I pick up examples at garage and house sales from time-to-time. They sell on ePrey for lots more.

It's definitely the profile of a Case XX heavy butcher's knife, but the guard is out of place - I'm pretty sure it is a mod. The handle is likely original, though. Darned nice pick up for a dollar.

I got a Case kitchen knife block with knives (4-5?) and a ceramic rod at a yard sale a few years back for $5.

Are they things to stash away for posterity or users?

I found something similar at another website but I don't think I'm allowed to post the link (am I?), it must not be a mod.
