Cliffs: just bought a bk14, looking for a 5-6 inch big brother that is durable enough for batoning and resistant to rust

Just bought my first blade. So happy with it. I need a bigger brother for it in the 5-6 inch range. Tell me if im wrong, but from what I know, high carbon steel is the best steel for larger blades in terms of durability? Is 5-6 inches considered a big blade? Because honestly, if it is not, I would rather have something more rust resistant that would be able to baton without worrying about compromising the blade. Can someone enlighten me and if you have any recommendations, it would be appreciated. Also, if I had to choose, I would go for the 6 inch over the 5 inch, but it CANT be over 6 inches due to laws in Korea. Reason is because I already have the BK14 and I dont want them too close in lengths. Thanks in advance!

Look at the Becker tweeners, 15-17, just the right blade length. Let us know what you decide. Good luck in the searching, sometimes that is the fun part.

ESEE 6 all the way man. You can do anything with it and it will not break(and if it does you can get another one free no questions asked. 1 guy shot his on purpose and still got a replacement free of charge) Carbon steel generally holds a better edge but some stainless steels are on par. With a carbon blade it either needs a coating or needs to be oiled often to prevent rust. Go for a carbon unless you are carrying a nessmuk trio. If you are the only one really needs to be carbon but all should be anyway.

That Esee 6 looks nice. The problem is, in korea, there is a law that states that a blade cant be longer than 6 inches. Its kind of hazy, and because the esee is 6.5 inch blade length with a 5 3/4 cutting edge, it might be a little risky. Leaning towards a bk2 right now, but im still looking around! thanks for the recommendation.

Welcome.

Is there any reason you feel the need to baton? Since you have just bought your first knife, you appear to be new to using knives in the field. Maybe it would be worth spending some time in the field deciding if batonning is something you feel the need to do. Not everyone batons. It's not a "rule" that you must baton.

Yea Im a beginner. I guess I got caught up in watching too many knife reviews on Youtube. All the tests seem to be about batonning trees! Ill put that into consideration. I have been looking at this blade : It is a Byron Elishewitz Lightning Strike. Its made of 154cm steel and its about 5-6 inches long. It doesnt have blade width specs and Im having trouble googling it. Have you ever heard about this Knife maker? You guys think this blade is quality? its going for about 100 dollars on this Korean site. It doesnt have width specs...it looks a little thin to me but im not so sure. EDIT: found the real name of the knife. Its a BYR115, and I found a little review on it this forum.
THIS is the review: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/759235-Crk-amp-t-f-t-w-s The only difference is the one I am getting is not the tactical one in the bladeforum review. The one i want is 5.3 inches long and made of 154cm instead of sk5 steel.

Check out the Swamp Rat Ratmandu CG and the ESEE 5. I've got a Ratmandu and it is truly an outstanding knife.

edited to add: however, if you buy the Ratmandu you'll need to spring for a sheath, too. Swamp Rats don't come with sheaths.
