Bought my first new bow since 1987

The last time I got a new bow was a Hoyt wheel bow in 1987. Back then, my brother and I waited for my dad to get home so we could go shoot in the front yard. We'd shoot a bunch every night - Easton XX75's. We all used finger tabs. I still remember painting an old pair of blue jeans with green and black camo spray paint to try to break up the silhouette.

A few times the past 5 years or so, my wife has said she'd like to try shooting a bow. She mentioned it a couple weeks ago, and I decided finally to make it happen. My dad got incredibly excited. He still hunts, using a Mathews Reezen. He brought his bow down for Thanksgiving. We took my wife to a local pro shop the day before Thanksgiving and got her fitted. While waiting for her to be done, I tried a few bows, and really liked one of them. The shop owner told me that since it was a 2014 model, it was one of his Black Friday specials.

I came back in Friday, got fitted, and came home with my first new bow in 27 years, an Elite Energy 35. I haven't hunted deer since 1989, but I have a feeling that 2015 will be another deer year.

Very nice! I've been thinking about getting a new bow as well. I've got 5, but the one I use most is getting up there in age. The others are just fun to shoot, but not a primary bow. I'm going to look at Hoyt's offerings.

The Hoyts look nice as well. My wife is waiting on a Hoyt Charger in their Vixcen (ladies) package. Should be here before the holidays.

I also shot the Mathews No Cam. That was one dead bow on release. I remember my dad's old PSE Cam bow from the late 80's recoiled like a .357. My Elite is very smooth on the shot, but the No Cam was completely still. Lots of great options out there, but they are very finely tuned machines. I've already popped the string off my Elite once by torquing during the draw.
