Just ordered my first Ratmandu in Tan Scales/Black Blade. It was either this or the RC5, but this knife seemed to be of higher quality/better ergos. I will mainly be using this as backpacking knife so it will do general chores, batoning, and the occasional chopping. For those of you that own the RMD, do you find it does these tasks well (I realize it is a smaller knife, but I'm a lightweight junky).

Also, where can I get a kydex sheath for it?

Thanks,

Good choice. I won't bad mouth the other option, but I would also never choose it over my RMD. There are a ton of reveiws on the RMD here. You will have no shortage of past posts that will confirm your choice. It will do all of those chores and more. There are a lot of great sheath makers in this forum. I can only recomend what I know. I really like my BuyBrown kydex sheath. The fit, finish and retention is great.

Congrats. Enjoy your new knife.

Like the others have said before, you will love the RMD. Fits the hand perfectly and is a great blade length. You got a great color combo too; I have those colors too on a HRLM and am thinking about adding a matching RMD.

Thanks for the insight guys. I always expect my knives to be hard users, but I also expect top-notch F&F, and it looks like swamp rat fits the bill from the pics. The RMD will get a severe dose of "hard-use", and I'll let you guys know how it does.

I've had both. The Esee was nice, but the Ratmandu is elegant! No other knife I own feels like an extension on my hand like my RMD is. You did good choosing the Rat! I'm actually gonna get a spare for the safe before they quit releasing 'em again I like it so much! Azwelke makes good sheaths for 'em at resonable prices, but you can't go wrong with MashedCat, or BuyBrown either!
