Bought Some Knives and Fixed Up A Few

I just recently got into buying knives to restore and collect. I bought a few lots on a popular auction site and they arrived today. Two of the knives are new but the rest are used. I had been eagerly awaiting for the Gerber Paraframe to come in as that was the first real knife I ever bought.

When I was younger I spent a summer with my aunt and uncle in Colorado. They had a son my age and we used to love going to the mall and looking at the knife store. We weren't old enough yet to purchase any knives ourselves but I remember making a deal with my Aunt where if I picked her garden of weeds she would buy me a new Gerber Paraframe. I think I only ended up picking half of the weeds as I grossly underestimated the size of the garden at the time haha. But she still let me keep the knife. I have since lost the knife but the memories remain.

Anyways, I will quit reminiscing and get on with the post. As I said earlier the knives arrived today and the Paraframe was in rough shape. The previous owner really abused it but luckily for me the blade was in good condition other than a water spot and had no rust or severe dings or notches. There was severe play in the blade though and the screws were pretty loose with the very last one being missing completely. I got to work and took the knife completely apart and cleaned each piece. I then put it back together again and oiled it. There is now very little play and it opens smooth as butter. I also gave a call to Gerber and asked if they could send me the back spacer and screw (explaining how they didn't have to but I thought I would ask) and to my surprise they said yes. I am very thrilled with the repair and I look forward to putting the back screw in. I know it is a cheap knife to some but to others like me it holds many great memories even if it isn't the exact same one.

I also started working on a small hunting folder type knife. It came in rough shape with half of some design on the front rubbed off. I was able to remove the design which was nothing more than a glued on piece and I ordered a sample of the carbon fiber like material mentioned in the spyderco bug thread recently and I hope to use it to cover the rough metal on the sides if it looks like it goes well.

I have about 16 more knives on their way. Some won't need refurbishing and some might be worth more untouched but I look forward to working on the ones that do. At this point I am loving experimenting on cheaper knives and getting a feel for what I like in a knife.

A shot of the knives. The boxes on the left go with the first two on the left. I was very surprised at the size of the Budk as I thought it would be closer to the size of my CRKT M16 when in actuality it is 11" long with a blade over 5". The one four in from the right is the second knife I was referring to above.
