I've always had lengths of paracord Ive scrounged off canopies or found or what ever, but never actually bought any

So I bought some at the local Army navy store, Rothco brand
Looks just like this
Coyote.jpg

says: 550 type lll commercial 7 strand

This stuff is crap ! It almost feels hollow and it flattens out like a cheap shoe lace

Its got the 7 strands, but they are thin little crappy barley twisted strands

Compared to these other lengths of paracord I have that are robust, solid and firmly round, and the seven stands inside are way thicker, wound tighter, five white and two red nylon. Way better cord

This rothco stuff is usable, and how it flattens might be advantages for certain use where flat works better than solid round,,, but Im just surprised how much better this other cord I have is. Dont know what brand it is

Need to find the good stuff . I found another brand called Atwood....

That is all :D

I usually buy paracord that says mil-spec, not commercial grade...dunno that may have something to do with it.

Where's the Becker content? If your gonna wrap an 11 or 14 I got it. At least throw us that much.

I'll assume that is where your going so I'll throw this in. The only paracord I've bought was was from Hobby Lobby. It didn't suck.

I have Atwood and mil-spec, I like mil-spec the best. It is softer, it seems more pliable.
I never heard of Rothco, thanks for the heads up. :)

...oh wait...

That probably must be it.... Ill keep an eye out for "mil spec"
It's also usually a lil more expensive, but worth it in the long run...they also make a paracord thats called firecord. It's 7 strand cord with an additional single flammable fire starting strand. From what I've seen its decent stuff and a way to always have tinder at hand.

I get this stuff from the local "GI" shop. They sell stuff for cops like boots and belts...a few Ka-Bars and a bit of surplus. I love their wool gloves, mil spec made in USA.
Anyway...they have a bunch of paracord bundled up with just a rubber band in many colors, but no specs or anything. Several different textures as well...some smooth, some rough, etc. Yeah, they have Rothco(Chinese) cord and some real nice $8-$10/100ft paracord. So I asked about the rubber band bundled tossed in the box stuff..."so...is this the foreign knock off cheapie" cuz its $4/100'... Turns out it's made here in Hickory, NC...they roll it off 1000' spools in the back! Well, specs schmecks...it works for all I need and is made about 3-4hrs up the highway AND its a bunch cheaper! Yippie!

Fleetfarm (upper midwest) sells Atwood paracord. Good stuff and inexpensive.

Never knew a BK3 Tactul threw that much sparks on a door entry....hahaha
Must be all that sheer 1095 CroVan power!!

Please keep posts clearly Becker related. I see a bit of Becker content on the tail end, but this one is close to being moved to Gadgets and Gear or Outdoor Gear.

Rothco's stuff is a bit iffy from what I've seen. So far the best paracord I've had is the "Titan" one from the big river store, got a bunch of it wrapped around my BK4 sheath. It feels stiffer and less slick than the regular or mil-spec stuff and has 21 individual strands, braided into seven 3-strand yarns. Currently I got my BK24 wrapped in leather cord but it's getting a bit ragged so I think I'll replace it with some Titan paracord this weekend, should be nice and grippy.

wondering if you used a BK15 and took the scales completely off and did a semi flat paracord wrap with some of that thin flat cord, it should make a good flat boot type knife....especially with a new sheath made specifically for boot carry....

Might be something I have to fiddle with in the near future considering BK15s are on closeout everywhere and almost dirt cheap atm....

ETA: just looked again, it seems the 15s are drying up and the few still available are starting to climb in price.....oh well, it was a good idea...maybe a 10 then...or a 17....

I've seen the same. I friend wanted to buy one from me a while back but I backed out just for that reason. Then a group buy popped up. I gave it to him at the previously agreed upon price, added $15 and scored 2 smooth roll stamped! So, yeah...getem while you can!

Pull the guts out of the cord to make it flat. Should work for any paracord.
I've thought about wrapping the tweeners myself just never tried it.
Being that I'm still too lazy to do so...
Maybe someone will try it to add more Becker content here!

In the mean time, here's my other wrapped 14...

Here's my leather cord wrapped 24 and my paracord wrapped Remora, along with a few other ones. The 5 and 15 are wrapped in tennis overgrip tape, the 9 and 4 are wrapped in the same leather cord as the 24.
