I just watched the Bourne Identity/Bourne Supremacy for the 100th time. I was wondering what style Kali did Matt Damon train in for the part?

In the Bourne Identity, I was told it was Lameco Eskrima, which doesn't surprise me at all. Look at the way he blocks and passes the knife attacks in Bourne Identity. In the Bourne Supremacy, it's a little bit harder to tell. It may still be Lamceo Eskrima, but there are very few Kali moves in the fight scene aside from the time when he rolls up that magazine and beats the other spy senseless with it. However, it's been a long time since I've seen either of the movies so I really can't recall off the top of my head.

i heard Matt Damon took private FMA lessons from Jeff Imada... so maybe more like Inosanto Lineage kali..

There was a letter in IKF or BB (I forget) from Dan Inosanto that stated that he never met or trained Damon....

Mr Damon could have received his training from one or more of guru Dan's seniors....

The person who trained Matt Damon was Jonathan Eusebio
listed in IMDB as the "technical advisor: martial arts" on BOURNE IDENTITY.

I met Jonathan when I was working on the HUNTED, and he had just finished training Damon for several months. He was also on set to advise on the fight scenes. He's Filipino and trained under Manong Dan inosanto.

Jonathan has also worked stunts in COLLATERAL and BOURNE SUPREMACY.

If you have or rent the DVD, Bourne Supremecy, switch to the director's commentary during the scene when Bourne returns to his apartment just before the bg swings through the window. Its been so long since I've watched it, I don't recall the details, but do remember that there were some flattering comments about kali philosophy,
and conservation of movement.

Best regards,

That's really cool to learn... I'd always watched both movies and felt really strongly that it looked like they were using some branch/form of Kali, but never could put my finger on it (or whether I was even right :D)

Jonathan is also listed as working stunts for 300, about the 300 Spartans.

I'm guessing, but I believe he'll be on the Immortals side. :)

So dare we start the battle of who would win in the mock movie Kali matchup?

Jason Bourne of The Bourne Identity/Supremacy vs. LT Bonham of The Hunted? :D

Actually a good suggestion, when we were working on the HUNTED choreography, to speed things up a bit we needed someone who could play to the camera in our test shots - and that's how we met Jonathan. He knew how to act in action scenes already and was a trained Inosanto guy. He helped us out by playing the role of LT Bonham while we filmed it for the director to check out. He played the whole final scene with Hallam's stunt double (who wasn't a trained knife guy). So we basically showed him what LT Bonham's moves were in bits and pieces and then Jonathan would "act" it out with the Hallam stunt double. The Hallam double already knew the moves, but was not as smooth as we liked yet. We filmed the small clips and edited them all together to show the director the final sequence.

Jonathan liked the material so much that he attended one of our mini Sayoc seminars in LA.

So in a way... Bourne and Bonham was the same guy at one point! :D

"Both Movies...Hunted and Borne Supremacy "

Wasn't it a combination of Pentjak Silat and Kali???

The ground fighting on the Hunted was Pentjak Silat, no doubt.
