With the BushcarftUSA Skills Meet sneaking up on us I decided to take advantage of the great day and practice a little bow and drill. Even though I am not competing this is one of my weaker skills and I need to practice it more. I got 3 coals today and got 2 on film. The third one took me 3 tries but I got it. I think that put me up to about 10 coals this month. It took me a long time to get a grip on this skill. Every coal still feels like an accomplishment. Anyway the first set is a yucca drill and a Basswood hearth. The second set is all Basswood. All materials were collected on my property.

Well done. i love yucca — it grows all over the place out here (San Diego).

Lately, I've been experimenting with wood from palm fronds. It works, but not as well as the Yucca.

Great stuff as always bro!

I love Basswoood, and that video makes me wish I had Yucca over here!
