What is the best cord to us on a bow & drill what has given the best results!

I'll take point

I'm still new at this myself. I just got through making a yucca fiber cord for use on a bow drill. I made the cordage from green leaves, now it's drying. I wanted to make a %100 natural set up like one could make in the woods. I've heard the yucca fiber is really good for this, and I'll post my findings.

Any cordage that can take the strain can work fairly well. The biggest problem after cord breaking for me is slippage, but squaring off the edged of the drill a little and giving the cordage a little more grip by twisting or braiding it seems to reduce this quite a bit.

My comment - whoever coined the old adage "where there's smoke there's fire" obviously never worked with bow & drill!

Check out the Primitive Skills Group website for great info on the technicals of bow & drill. They discussed it in length about a year ago, including squaring, beveling, drill shapes, woods, fibers, etc. It might be available for viewing in their archives.
