Bow drill practice

Nice vids, I like seeing that Mullein used as a spindle I am planning on trying that when I harvest some.

For the a scary moment, I thought you were fire-making in the nude... very dangerous.
:D

Nice vid man... I checked out a few of your other vids too, you have some really great info to share:thumbup:

something i figured out today while doing a little practice. instead of using a rock or piece of wood to hold the top of the spindle with, the flared ends of tube fasteners on the knife handle work way better and are alot smoother. i was thinking about the hole in the RC5 handle but had a swamprat laying right next to me, works just as good

Cool vids man, thanks for sharing. I just got back from a trip to Alaska and was able to harvest some aspen and cottonwood for bow drill. Both worked well and were easier than the cedar I'm used to. One thing interesting about cedar I learned is that you can actually get a coal even if the wood is damp and sometimes even wet. It does require considerably more effort but can be done. An instructor at the tracker school demonstrated this and it was pretty damn cool.
