So this is something I have wanted to do for a while. My first attempts was months ago & I was using a wood with to much resin. So I got my hands on some cedar & made my bow drill set! My first attempt I cut the notch wrong as you can see in the photos. My second attempt I got a ember but my nest wasn't broken down enough (too much surface area) so it never caught. My third attempt I made the ember and placed it in the nest. Then when the nest burst into a flames I dropped it and it went out. Although very disheartening I didn't let it stop me. These things can happen in the field, but survival is a attitude! So I tried again & boom I MADE FIRE!!!

Nice work, It is helpful to see your errors as well. Many times we only post the successful part and it is hard to learn from. I have yet to get outside and try this, but is on my list of things to do in the near future. Way to stick with it

That is great!

You did use the divot on the 5's grip, right?

awesome!!! glad to see you got that 5 off the Christmas tree and put her to good use! ;)

Sorry being ignorant, but the divet in the knife handle is used in place of carving a top handhold for the spindle, correct?

That's the idea of the divot, yeah. I'm wondering if he used it at all. As a matter of fact, has anyone in here used it? I'm interested in some feedback on that.

Thank you all for the support! yeah it was a great feeling! yeah I have taken the 5 off the tree & made feather sticks with the tree burned it and cooked some streak! I used the handhold for this one but it is a skill i will continue to work on using different woods, & cordage! I will also try using the divet on the knife and let you all know how that goes! decklin you will get it my friend if i can be of any help just let me know!

RAT! thanks for the link is it $30 a year for the gold membership?! if so I am totally in! just want to make sure before I sign up.

Dude, I just gave you the link. Whatever the prices are is up to the owner of the site: Spark. I would think he had it laid out in an idiot-proof format with pricing and all.

They just say gold membership $30 they don't say for how long. could be one year two maybe five dunno because it didn't say. I was just curious as to how long before i have to renew but i guess we will see after i sign up. no worries i am going to get the membership regardless thanks for the link my friend!

gold is $25 for a year, I just signed up today. and yes it is pretty idiot proof, just select the level of membership you want and for how long, give them your CC info, and magically you get upgraded instantly.

you're welcome. now, if you enter the junglas contest you better not beat my submission!

I just deleted your submission and called you a dumbass :D

When you get Gold then resubmit it. If you would have mentioned in your entry that you had just paid for your gold then I would have let it stood.
