Dear All,

after a lot of reading in this forum and watching YouTube movies about the bow drill fire making, I was able to make my first fire with this technique today!

Sorry, no pictures, I was very busy to get it work...

Many many thanks to you all!

Best regards,

tuxtex

Congrats! You will never forget that feeling you had when you got your first coal!

Keep practicing, it never gets old!

It feels great huh? Be proud of yourself!

Thank you Talfurche! The feeling is more than words could say, maybe similar to the feelings I had when my daughter was born. After a while I felt closer to our ancestors. I know this might sound strange, but this feeling was deep inside me.

Good job there. Now you just keep practice when you can.

Thank you Hawkeye! I made my exercises in my backyard and I am aware, that this first time is just the beginning of a long journey. I will keep on practice!

Thank you tonym! As I replied already to Talfurche, the feelings are indescribable! And I will try it again.

By the way, I used Poplar for the hearth and the drill, Hazel for the bow and Oak for the Bearing Block. The string was 550er Paracord and the ember Pan a piece of an Amazon cardbox!
