I have the general premise of HOW to make a fire with a bow drill but what I'm lacking is wood combos for hearth board and spindle. Can I get a list of different woods to try? Pacific NW specific woods would be a great plus. Thanks.

Maple and Cedar are the 2 I use here in the good ole' Pacific Northwet (no, that's not a typo.) Use material from the trunk of the tree, as I found limbs didn't make as good a fireboard as I would have liked. Make sure you wood is dry! I made mine by felling a 8" diameter Maple, chopping it to manageable sized pieces, split it, and then left it in a corner of my office for 2 months. The final product seems to work well. I used the limbs to make lots of different length spindles, until I found a good length for me.

Good luck, take lot's of pictures,
