8CR13MoV blade.
Can it reliably spark a ferro rod, or will I need to carry a separate striker?
Please forgive my ignorance. I don't know what (if any) stainless steels can be used with a ferro rod.

The blade spine both looks and feels like it has not been radiused.

Thank you.

Stainless steel can spark a ferro rod just the same as carbon as long as it has a sharp edge to strike with.

Stainless just wont spark when you strike the knife with a flint rock because it doesnt have a high enough carbon content.

Getting sparks from flint has more to do with iron oxidization than carbon content. Very basically if the knife can easily rust it will work.

But yes, you can get sparks from a ferro rod using anything that is hard and sharp enough, not just steel.
