The bow season in Oregon starts the last weekend in August. It's getting closer :D

The last two seasons, I haven't been as enthused as I normally get. I still went, and hunted hard, but the enthusiasm level wasn't at its normal level.
This year is different. I feel like I am back to normal, and can't wait...

I know different states start their seasons at different times, but is anyone else getting excited ?

Archery elk starts Aug. 30th where I am. Counting the days, and practicing every chance I get, for sure...

I am, but I have till October 1st

 I don't think I would make it waiting that long :D

 That is one thing I like about Oregon, we hunt deer and elk at the same time. Not sure how many other states do it this way.

It is about the only thing ODFW does right

It's the same here. But the reality is I get so focused on elk that I'm not really deer hunting, unless one just happens to walk by and present a shot.

I also have to wait til October. I'm new to bow hunting, but not hunting. I've taken several deer a year for many years and I process them myself. However, I'm really getting interested in the idea of bow hunting with a recurve. Currently I have an old Bear compound that is probably old as me. I can shoot fairly well with it. But I am just not comfortable with a compound. It just feels like too many moving parts. I've never shot a recurve, but I'd really like to......

Good luck on your first season. Nothing wrong with recurves...

One thing that some people fight with, when they first start shooting a bow is, being honest with themselves about how far they can shoot accurately, and consistently...
If you shoot well at 20 yards, but not out to 30 yards, limit your shots to 20 yards. This is my sons 3rd bow season. The first year I limited him to 20 yard shots.
2nd year I bumped him up to 30 yards. He can now shoot very well at 40, and sometimes 50 yards. It was a little frustrating for him the first year, because he had to pass up a few deer that were out a little to far. He understands why though.

Mid sept in WI. I never missed an opener 24 25 years or so

 Good luck this season

After I get a new string on the bow I'll be out in the yard shooting plenty. The regular whitetail archery season starts october 5 here but in my area an early doe season begins september 21. Trail camera pictures help get the enthusiasm up for sure.

Up in new England we gotta wait too but Connecticut has one of the longest seasons for bow hunting and they have an awesome reward program for taking does. For every does you get they replace that tag, and for every 3 does tags you replace you get an extra buck tag. It's an awesome program they have to drop the population, they also have one where you can get you deer butchered for free and donate the meat but keep the best cuts for yourself. I live in MA but I always get a CT lisence because of the perks you get for hunting in CT, not to mention there are tons of deer.

That is really cool...

Yea I love it, usually I spend a lot of my fall and winter at my cabin in NY, but I always make it back at least once a week if not more to hunt CT because of the tag replacement system they have going. I just wish we were ale to hunt with rifles and not just shotgun or muzzle loader

It is still hard for me to imagine the number of deer you guys have back there...

I live in central Oregon. We have a decent population of Mule deer, and Rocky Mountain elk, and we have some very big ones too.
I like a big rack as much as the next guy, but I want the meat. It would be really cool to shoot 3 or 4 deer in a season. It definitely wouldn't go to waste :D

Mid sept here.
Dialing in what bow to use now complete. Had two Primes, a PSE DNA, bowtech experience and now settled in a Hoyt Spyder this year. I'm a little obsessed having had over 100 bows in the last 5 years. Set up now and just need to shoot daily until then.
I'm pumped for the season.
