Bowdrill attempt !

I was out for the day hiking in the boreal forest and decided to practice bowdrill fire making. I got alot of smoke and brown dust but no ember... I will keep practicing this technique.

Those things you put between your thumb and forefinger to do fidget spinning work look pretty useless, but I wonder if they could improve the efficiency of a bow drill.
 
I don't know what wood you're using, but I found that a fire board that thick( looks like yours was about 3/4") tends to suck too much heat from my goal. When I reduced my fire board to a 1/2" things started to go my way. Sounds like you may have had too much friction with the bearing block, but I may be wrong. Your speed, length of stroke, and pressure look good to me.
