If one wanted to add a bowdrill divot to one's RC-4 or 6, what sort of tool would be needed? Also, would it void the warranty? I think it's a great feature and wish it came on all the knives.

An electric drill with a large, pointed bit. Make sure to wear a respirator, because you don't want to breathe micarta or G-10 dust. And my guess is no, I don't think it would void the warranty.

Nope, won't void the warranty since I don't really know how you can tear up Micarta. With that said, if you decide you don't like your divot then that's on you and we won't replace the handles.

A ball end mill does a good job at making a nice rounded hole.

Get a countersinking bit, that should do the trick. You really only need a dimple, don't go drilling for oil:D

yeah, I wouldnt use a pointed bit, I'd go for a round one, you could start with a smaller size pilot hole and then go for the size you want so that the bit doesnt wander one you.

Thanks fellas. I'm not even sure if I'm gonna do it. Just a random idea that floated between the ears and lodged there for a little while.

Secure that blade before attempting in a press, a mill or with a hand drill.
A spinning knife is serious business!

Yea, it turns into a totally unguarded lawnmower really quick.

If I had a dollar for every time I cut myself drilling pin holes in a blade blank I'd have like, two bucks. But it really hurts.

I have a RC5 and it is kinda my favorite knife, but...a bow drill pivot is really quick to make as the drill and hearth take most of the time to do. If your drill has a nice rounded high friction end on the hearth end, a pointed low friction end on the pivot end then it is really quick to put a divot into a bit of wood that would be more comfortable to use in the hand. Still, matches/lighter/flint with the drill a long fourth is still my prefered option!

I can always see the use for an immediate bow drill divot, as I love the one on my RC 5, however, I don't think you should be tearing into your RC 4 or 6 just to add one. As previously said, not to long to make. However, each person has their own preferences

Yeah the more I think about it the more I don't think I'll do it. As Jim said, those things are pretty easy to make. No sense in potentially screwing up an excellent knife. Besides, I don't even have the knife yet. Stupid economy.
