This was one of Don Hanson's JS Test knives. June was a very expensive month.
The blade is clean as a whistle, the hamon is striking, and the sculpted elephant ivory handle is simply fabulous.

That is my favorite Hanson bowie so far. What a beauty. I really like elephant ivory, but there would be just way too much red tape to get it into Canada.

That's another beauty from Don. This knife had a real nice feel in the hand too. Quicker than it looks. Great catch Peter.

Guess I need to embrace the dark side and get something like this.

Wow I really like that. I like how he handled the ricasso going down to the plunge—a bit different.

I love this one. Look at how the handle and the blade sweep upward, yet still meet. There is only one straight line in the knife at the guard and spacer. It it the perfect counter to the graceful curves at each end.

The clean and light-colored blade and handle are also divided by the dark hardware. This is a Bowie textbook example. :D

Thanks, Peter. Great score. :)

Peter, this is a special bowie, I hope you enjoy. Thanks for showing it.
Thanks everyone for your kind words.
Coop you have a way with words, makes me want to get out to the shop and start another bowie :)

Steve, yours aint so bad either. :)

To answer Nick's question, I believe Don said the ferrule and guard are heat colored tool steel, Don can scold me if I'm wrong. :)

But really, guys, Hanson bowies, what took you so long, and if you don 't have one yet, why???... :p

I actually have Danbo to thank for getting me into Don's forged stuff last year and I'm glad to see Peter pick this one up, his second I believe... :)

Actually, I'm the lucky one. I've been fortunate enough to live fairly close to Don, and have known him for many years. I've been fortunate to watch him grow in leaps and bounds as a knifemaker. Somewhere, I know a friend of mine who has one of Don's early stag fixed blade hunters that I bought from Don at the end of a small local knife show for about $50(a long time ago)! For some strange reason, my friend tries to change the subject whenever I attempt to buy that knife back. ;) :)

This bowie is just lovely!

I likend That clip and hamon to the crest of waves..this piece is perhaps the most traditionally styled of Don's to date..but oozes those Hanson lines
My favorite.
