I try very hard to avoid impulse purchases, especially in the weeks leading up to the Blade show in Atlanta. However some knives you just can't let pass. A 10.25" blade of 1084, 15.5" overall with nickle a silver guard and fittings with an exceptional Box Elder Burl handle.

Peter,
Outstanding Bowie!
Nice score.
If I'm wrong I apologize,but aren't the fittings and guard,stainless.

Doug

Doug,

The sale thread described them as stainless, but they are nickle silver, which is fine with me. I am still trying to figure out exactly what the wood is.

That's a great looking knife. I really can't say what the wood is. Terry used a lot of gidgee, but that doesn't look like any gidgee I have seen.

Maybe the wood is brown dyed black ash burl? Terry's used black ash burl before, and from my experience it has the small tight burls and birdseyes that this handle exhibits. I've also seen dyed masur birch with the same amount of activity though not as tight; masur birch also has more chatoyance than black ash burl so it'd be easy to tell in real life but not in pictures.

I love Terry's knives. Nice score!

That is one sweet looking blade, I really like the profile of it. The whole thing floes nicely.

Heck, I used to own this one and I can't remember what the wood is.

Maybe Terry will chime in here and fill us in. :)

I have no idea what type of wood it is but...
I know what I wood like...

I wood like a chance to buy a knife before Peter,
I wood especially like more than "14" minutes,
I wood like to have as much free time to surf...

Oh well, wishful thinking.
Great score, Peter. See you in Atlanta.
(I hear he arrives on Monday, so he can set up ambush spots for unsuspecting knifemakers. This guy NEVER sleeps!!!

Peter,
That's an oldie. I've been going through old backups of my website to find the knife and a description.

I finally found it in a backup dated April 20, 2002, so the knife was made some time before that. The description says that the handle is presentation grade Box Elder Burl, and the guard is nickel silver.

By the way it was called the Zolas Bowie.

Peter,
To the best of my knowledge your's is one of only two Zolas Bowies ever made. The original was one of only a couple of knives that I ever tried to do according to a clients specs.

Here's a shot I made of your knife right after completing it.

It would appear that both Danbo and whomever owned it afterwards took good care of the knife. I'm glad to see that it's still in good hands.
