Been a while since I posted a knife on here...been on instagram making my fortune...kidding.

A while back a buddy of mine brought by some shrapnel from an IED in Afghanistan, wondering if I could incorporate it into a knife for him. He also specified a heavy patina, and that I try and use a busted M14 stock he had.

The shrapnel was cast iron, so I can welded it up with powdered steel and wound up doing damascus guard material. The gunstock was tricky due to the holes bored in from the butt end...had to get thin slices off the sides. Ended up laminating some carbon fiber with it for a block.

Here's what I came up with. It's a real cutter, and I know he'll get some use out of it.

I really like it. Not sure anyone deserves a fine knife like that more than one of our armed forces heroes.

Beautiful knife and a fitting tribute to service of our country. Thank you for sharing

Best looking Bowie that I've seen in awhile

Great blade shape

Would love to see more pics of it from different angles

Thanks, guys!

Joe, I appreciate that!

I have limited pics, decided to put some more coats of finish on the handle and it's wet.

Here's a profile shot.

Good purpose to return shrapnel back to the battle field.. May it find its way home and take care of the putz who sent the shell down range and endangering our troops on the ground

Really cool piece, Tad. It has both purpose and meaning - something that very few knives ever truly possess.

Much respect to you both
