Hi guys,

Just thought I'd share some pics of a recent e-bay find (not my usual hunting ground, but this worked out just fine :) )

This bowie is by Master Smith Keith Kilby, though it was produced while he was Journeyman Smith, back in the day.

The knife features a 7 3/4" damscus blade with an overall length of 12 1/2". A little on the small side for me ;) but it's a stout knife, with a blade thickness of approx. 1/4" at the ricasso. Sheath is shark skin.

The grooved, oval-shaped double gaurd is rendered in damascus, as is the ferrule.

The handle is a premium piece of stag, with excellent colour, contour and texture. The kind you rarely see nowadays. It is finished off with a nickel silver cap, meticulously filed to match the texture of the stag.

The knife has a reassuring heft and excellent balance. Fit and finish are beyond reproach.

One final parting shot that shows off the long, aggressive clip:

Beautiful Bowie!!

Keith is a great guy and maker............nice score!!!

Truly stunning. We see a lot of small stag Bowies but this one is just amazing. The blade looks laminated, is it? The buttcap is another marvel. The great ones just have a certain flow to them. Look how the blade seems to just flow naturally from the curve of the stag.

And the answer is... I don't know. My first thought when I opened the package was "Wow - is this a San Mai blade?" The edge is almost mirror-polished and really contrasts well with the rest of the etched blade. Could just be that he didn't etch the edge. Either way, it's a very eye-catching blade.

I'd like to get some more info from Keith, so if anyone has an e-mal address for him I'd really appreciate it.

Cheers,

Roger

KEITH KILBY, Jefferson, GA as of 2000, not sure if he is still in that area.

This may be his email addy: found through a search for you. It has a different town listed in Ga., but you could give it a try. Good luck

Roger,

While you have certainly shown your share of fine knives in the past, this one gives them no quarter. Awesome choice of materials, great design and great workmanship. Nice one.

Roger,

Very well done! Your photography is a distinct improvement over the previous owner. Enjoy it!

Thanks guys. :)

brownie - thanks - I understand that he has since moved to Wyoming. I'll see if the e-mail addy works.

Cheers,

Roger
