This place needs a dedicated bowie and other BIG KNIFE forum🔪🗡️, and maybe someplace to discuss kukris! JMO...

Good idea. There is a fixed blades section in the traditional forums.

I like the idea of discussing big knives, but leave Bowie out of it.

We don’t really have an acurate description of Jims knife.

We don’t know if he had more than one

We don’t know what happened to his Alamo knife.

We as a community can’t agree on what a Bowie knife even is, we all have an idea, but the idea is tainted.

So many stories with suposed provenance obviously some are straight up lies, for profit.

“Bowie knife” has become just a marketing scheme. To me it borders on stolen valor.

Jim’s knife is America’s Excaliber, finding it would be like finding the Holy Grail.

I don’t need a fake Excaliber, or a representation of a carpenters wine glass, or a fake Bowie.

Sorry for the rant, it just strikes a nerve. Big knives? Love them. Bowies knives, I want nothing to do with them.

Wolf Creek Forge, yes! The rasp hawk sleeps soundly under my bed. Kentucky (the blacksmith, that is) rules. Is he still active?

I realize its inaccuracy, but I still like using the term "Bowie" to describe any fixed blade knife with a clip point and cross guard; it's just a quick way to describe that setup. Might we eventually come up with a more accurate shorthand term?
I get what you are saying. Maybe “Frontier knife?” IDK.

IMHO, it would be best as you described it, “fixed clip blade with cross guard”

Some people have a much broader view of what a Bowie is, its all very muddy. For example some people think folding knives are Bowies.

Found it! Says #1 and everything.

I think we are just talking about general term for a large knife that may have a clip and guard, or just a large knife in general. I think the OP would be ok with it. 😀

You are gonna have to talk me into building ya a bowie.
I know, I have thought about that. I have blown my budget for at least the next few years already. I love an older one In stag, brass guard and 8 inch Bade I have seen of yours with stag handle on another site. Very similar to a Puma original Bowie in stag. Found it.

More large knives , maybe Bowies without a guard, 😀 and a Svord with about a 6.5 inch blade….with a guard. Excuse the smaller knives next to the Greywolf knives Bowie.

Two ML knives Bowie style, then a small ML HB and NorthRiver camp knife.

In nearly 13 years as a registered member you have 58 posts on these forums. In all that time you could have discussed any number of large knives here in the "General Knife Discussion Forum" or in any of the sub-forums where they would have been germane. Others certainly have.

"He doth protest too much, methinks"...comes to mind.
