Bowie knife sheath question

Folks,

I know before I post this that I’ll probably get a multitude of responses stating that I should just go with my personal preference, but I would like to get some feedback on the advantages and disadvantages of the differing types of sheaths that I can get for my Bowie or more specifically: 1) a sheath that covers just the blade with the belt loop being part of it – not extending past the hilt of the knife (which raises the overall placement of the knife on my belt); 2) a sheath that covers the blade with the belt loop being above the hilt and behind the handle; and 3) with or without a retaining strap… thanks in advance…

Mike,
The first one (not above the hilt) will make your knife sit very high on the belt and is commonly referred to as a "high ride"..Mainly used for smallish knives that you wish to carry concealed...For a large knife this will have the hilt sticking you in the ribs alot

Numero 2...For a large blade this is the preferred sheath...Blade sits at a decent level for carry comfort and is very stabile

Numero 3...With a training strap=more security but slower draw

Without a retaining strap=less security but faster draw

Number 2 is my favorite btw..:)
