I’m new to this forum, so please forgive me if I’ve done something wrong.

I’ve had this beautiful knife for some time, but I have never got down to the bottom of who made it. It’s be suggested that it’s 1830-1840 and made by William Congreve or possibly Rose.

I have no idea how to add a picture off my phone but I have tried lol

It’s to complicated can a mod delete my account please, or maybe put me in contact with Bernard Levine?

Could I email the pictures to someone to attach or maybe put me in contact with Bernard Levine?
If you like, you can email me the pics to classicalequitation @ gmail . com and I will post them for you.

Lol it’s off my iPhone if that helps?

Tap this link https://postimages.org/
You should see " upload images " in blue.
Tap that then select your image and hit upload.
Once it uploads just scroll down to the hotlink for forums and tsp the little blue icon in front of it.
That will copy it then you just tap and hold to paste it here.

That's 6 simple steps if you count tapping the link.

It's a nice looking knife, but I don't know how to tell if it's an actual antique knife or just a vintage reproduction made in India.

tltt, that’s some wonderful information, so it’s all looking to be made by Congreve then. I assume the date 1830-1840 is about right?

Do you know what the stamp MART on the blade means?

Congreve made knives 1830's - mid 1840's, so that would be the range. Also, that type of very fancy style is early, pre-Civil War certainly. I don't know what "MART" is, but my guess is it might be a retailer for whom the knife was made.

In the book "A sure defense The Bowie Knife In America" on page 216-217, there's a Charles Congreve bowie with the same type of guard and pommel as in the OP's pic.The handle is checkered Ivory and the pin is in the same place.Made in Sheffield and in the 1830'ies.
Seems like the OP's knife would benefit from being examined by Bernard Levine.

Regards
Mikael
