I can't seem to find a Bowie knife that I don't want!!!

It's been this way for me as long as I could remember.
My only problem is that I don't have the money to invest into purchasing all that I want.

This especially applies to custom Bowies. If I only had more use for the large blades, I think that I could justify (to myself at least) the purchase of at least one good one a year.
I can't even pick up a copy of Blade magazine without being tortured by the image of yet another amazingly spectacular custom Bowie.
I just love 'em all!!!!

Anyone else suffering from this particular knife addiction???

I'd like to hear you're comments.

That Matt Lamey Bowie is NICE!

(It sure puts my Stainless Cold Steel Trail Master Bowie to shame...

I am not very good at resisting temptation sometimes. I confess, I am weak.

They are mine.

The stag on the handles is some of the best I have seen.

Gotta say I have a love/weakness for big bowies...

The are more endearing when they handle, slash and thrust well. Practicing with them makes them that much valuable for me.

Bo, those are some beautiful blades.

I was going to post and say that I don't have a addiction, or even a 'passion' for these Big knives, but then I clicked on Bo's links. Oops.

Actually, I like Bowies. I have not collected any (yet), but mostly because I'm still hanging on to a shred of pretending that I would actually find some way to use my knives. I am not really into weapons oriented knives. I try to find knives that represent a marriage of Function, Form, and Beauty.

The problem is, the Bowie represents these qualities as well or more than other knife styles. I'm sure I will have a few Bowies someday. Price is an issue. But since I am now willing to spend big bucks for knives, big knives are starting to seem more affordable. And maybe you get more Bang for your Buck with Bowie.

I used to view bowie knives as being to large also but then I saw Prairie Storm by Ed Caffrey.

Now I think of it this way. A custom knife maker is an artist. When making a bowie the maker is using a larger canvas to express the talent they have been given. You pick up one of these and you will never be the same. It is magic.

I have to say....

There was a day....

When I did not care for Bowies in general.

But now I give an eye to a good bowie.

I especially like Matt Lamey's work for it's clean lines.

And Allen Blade's Combat Patrol Bowie is very stout.

I will agree with him...They are magic!!!

You folks wanna check out some awesome bowies? Get the newest Knives annual and check out the big section on large damascus bowies. If that dont make you drool, nothing will.

Yo Danbo,
"Knives Annual"...Is this a book or a large annual magazine??

Oddly enough, even though this book/mag is mentioned quite often here at BF's, I haven't run across it yet.

Is it custom only or does it also have production pieces as well?

I have seen Knives 2000. The one by JD Smith was pictured in Knives 1999.

Here is a link to Knives 2000. Many good articles, pictures and a good listing of custom makers.

If you want your wife to like buy her any knife made by Audra Draper my wife likes mine alot. She also likes my pearl handled one.

I just noticed Knives 2001 is out, I will have to go get one.
