Just watching the Alamo (3 rd time). Jim Bowie and Davie Crockette, trapped in the Alamo, have a little converstion about one of Jim's legendary fights and Jim offers Davie his knife for inspection. Several times in the movie the Jim Bowie character pulls out his rather astonishing knife that looks a good 12-14" but doesn't have a blade style that I usually associated with a bowie knife. Also has a funny guard. I was wondering if any truth finders out there have seen the movie and could comment on the authenticity of the movie 'bowie' knife. I know that Paul Chen offers some historical bowie knives but nothing looks anything like the movie version.

b.t.w. they have one scene in the movie of a white cook using a Chinese styled cleaver which I thought probably wasn't likely appropriate so I have my doubts...

Any comments. I apologize if this has been discussed before...

Billy Bob - Good point I should have been more specific. I believe the movie is only a couple of years old.

Thanks for that link Onies, the specimen in the movie looks closer to the Bart Moore knife described in the article, only the movie version is exaggerated in size compared to the one in the article. The guards look the same though.

I must add as well that was a really informative and well written article. Thanks again for the link!
