Recently I have been stewing over what knife to buy. I've narrowed it down to wanting a Bowie knife, but I'm not sure which one. There are so many to choose from. Has anyone had a particularly good experience with a certain Bowie? Preferably one with a wooden handle. Thanks!

the Cold Steel Laredo is really pretty good, it holds up to chopping wood just fine, a little sandpaper to round the grip and remove the sharp edges and your good to go.

Any idea how much you want to spend OP and also what you plan on carrying the knife for?

Like several have said above, Cold Steel Natchez, Laredo or Trailmaster. The Laredo is now only available with a micarta handle, but it used to be in faux cocobolo wood as well. If you don't mind a modern look, TOPS has huge knives. Condor makes some bowies as well. Windlass Steelcrafts makes bowies, available on atlantacutlery. Also Muela and Nieto, 9 inch blade bowies, some with wood scale handles. All depends on what you features you want and what you want to do with the knife.

Not so fancy but the Buck General, can be found in 420hc or with 5160, black phenolic or wood handles.
