looking to buy a bowie type knife. looking for quality and purest knife compare to old West style.

You’ll need to specify a price range otherwise you’ll get tons of responses that are not relevant.

You should also explain what you mean by “Bowie”. The most popular knife used during the mountain man era was along the lines of a Dexter Russel Green River Trade Knife. There is also the American San Francisco knives that evolved during the Gold Rush (1849), or the many import knives that flooded in from Sheffield.

You could probably commission one from one of the custom makers here. I’m positive you could find something that fits the bill here.

If you use the search function it will pull up thousands of “Bowie” knives.

I would go for the Spanish ones. Joker, cuderman, muela, all good knives and do functional representations in stag handles for a good price.

Eg.

Well here is what the original probably looked like according to Jim Bowie's brother. Still want one?

I love me them bowie knives and have a bunch. Probably the closest one I own to an "original" though I purchased off this site several years ago. It was made by a dude named Ursus or something like that. It is patterned after one that is hanging in the Alamo Museum I do believe. Looks like a large butcher knife frankly with plain rosewood scales similar in pattern to what is on the museum knife. Cept I think those scales are oak. It is a simple knife in looks, antique finish that looks great to this day even with use. No clip point but a slightly dropped point, .25" spine with a bit of distal taper to the point, full flat grind, forged 5160 steel differential heat treat etc etc. Have it in a Greco old timey sheath that fits it perfectly with the stud for belt carry on my left side. For a knife like this simple is better imho. thanks

Watch this, pick a style you like, then tell us -

You've asked an unknowable question. Do you want a historical replica? Do you want a replica with modern materials? Do you want a good modern knife that sorta tics the Bowie boxes? All are different things.
