Just wanted to mention, for those interested, I posted another old story on the coon hunting page last night.

Again, if you haven't seen this before, BE WARNED! Hunting animals with a big knife can get messy at times, and I am rather blunt in my descriptions. If that sort of thing might offend you PLEASE DO NOT FOLLOW THIS LINK. Otherwise, enjoy.

Hey there Possum,

Your loss of a fine blade, especially one you hand a hand in building is truly sad.

To put the positive spin on this for you, look at it this way.

You have the experiences of the blades performance, the knowledge it has given you to create something even better next time, the feeling of satisfaction it performed as you wanted for the time you had it.

You have been enlightened by this knife, thats a good thing. There is no replacing real world experience, and you have that and more.

A very rich man to my thinking, I rather enjoy the reads and wish I could experience some of the tales myself.

Stay safe

Brownie

Thanks for the words of comfort, Brownie. You are right in all respects. It just took me a while to realize these things. I made an effort to not get too attached to my new Bowie, especially since I discovered the problems with the steel, but it's been working it's way into my heart. ;) One of these days, I'm gonna damage it beyond repair, and be crushed all over again. :( I've considered already starting another one, so I will still have a good Bowie ready to go if that day comes.

Like I've said, the offer stands to come along if you're ever in the area, man. Though, you really don't need me. Surely you have coons up there, don't ya? Find a farmer and befriend him. I'm sure he'd be glad to let you eliminate varmints for him, especially when his sweet corn patch starts to ripen. ;)

Man, how do I get your lifestyle?
My folks don't own a farm. :grumpy:

:D All ya gotta do is have a couple thousand dollars worth of your property destroyed by vermin! Seriously, as I mentioned, surely you're within driving distance of some place that attracts these nuisance animals? Even if not a farm, how 'bout a suburban dumpster? Or even other animals that cause havoc for you locally? It ain't all glory, anyway. I've been flamed and blasted plenty on other boards over the past few years for talking about this stuff in an honest manner. That's why the coon hunting page was created.

Possum,
The problem with alot of people is they expect other people to take care of their problems.
You it seems do not, that scares some people.
These same people also shudder when you show them a slaughterhouse but still eat the cheeseburgers.
Maybe you can live trap the varmints and they can adopt them.
