I'm looking for christmas knives and decided that i would like a bowie with a stag handle. I probalbly wouldn't use it for much but i would like it not to fall apart with light chopping. The price should be under 150$.

I was looking at a few and here are the links:

Those are the 2 i was looking at. Any thoughts on either of them? Also if you have any other ideas let me know.

Thank you:)

I don't really trust either of them, as far as quality steel and construction goes. The only option that I can think of off hand (I'm not all that familiar w/ stag handles, since I'm not a big fan) is the CAS Iberia historical bowie.
I'll try to find a link.

Here's the best price I found:

Be CAREFUL! There's a lot of big bowies out there that use weak steel in their knives, but still charge a lot, as in 150-200. The bowie that I recommend has high carbon steel, which is prone to rust, but is much, much better steel for using. If you're going to stick in a drawer or wall, then you probably want the stainless, which won't hold an edge as well.

Has anyone ever bought one of those muela knives? They look interesting. Any help is appreciated

I can't tell you about them, do a search, and find out what kind of steel they're made of.

The only Muela knife that I have ever had the chance to handle was a small skinner that was a darn decent knife. I never did put it through any paces though. It did a good job cutting paper and some leather. The steel was something they call molybdenum/vanadium steel. It is reportedly a pretty good steel.

You might keep a hawkeye on the Custom Sale By Maker forum. Last week I bought a custom handmade Don Hanson hunter - a real beauty made with crown sambar stag - for exactly $150.

Made in Argentina Boker "Arbalito" knives have stag-handles - not the greatest steel (some sort of 440, probably 440A), but priced low. Their "Gaucho" knives have stag handles and 1070 steel.

Anza makes all of their standard knife models with stag as an option. Or they can make you a true custom knife using your design ideas.

Good Luck in your quest,
Bob

P.S.
You should also consider the "Antique Stag Bone" that is used on Bark River knives. It's bone that is jigged and dyed to look like stag. I have one B.R. in that material, and it is handsome stuff.

I found one about half way down the page of the muela knives. The jabali knife. The steel is moly-vanadium. I looked up both parts of it and it sounds like a pretty decent steel.

Anyone that has one of these knives, any insite is helpful
