Bowie

Matt, you're like that guy who gets on the entrance ramp of the thruway, and jumps up to speed right into the third lane. ;)

Does that forge ever cool down now? Super.

This is my second and biggest Bowie, improving but I struggled with the polishing

I admire your work

Do you if your country exports 2x72 belt grinders to the UK?

This is my second and biggest Bowie, improving but I struggled with the polishing
I am working on another blade today and spent 2 hours polish yesterday and 2 hours today, it was hard for me.
I machine ground blade down to 120 grit and it looked OK , then I started hand sanding with 180 wet/dry paper, then 240 320, 600 and finally 1200, now I can see a few blemishes which I must address with my old eyes.

I use ceramic belt for roughing out, then 120 grit which I think works well, then the hard bit starts.

I wonder if these conditioning belts for 4 x 36 would be beneficial for me, which ones would Need?,
Any advice welcome.

Thank you

I use Norton Blaze from 36 to 80 grit. Then disk sander to 400. 400 and 600 by hand. Buying/building a disk sander is the greatest time saver I have in my shop. Keep up the good work!

Can you show me a photo of a disk sander?

Thank you

I am in the shxx big time, I have polished my guts out on my latest Bowie and although not perfect I was very pleased, a big step forward for me at this stage.
Alas poor Robert, I have burned the 1080 steel bladede using my propane forge.
Sick as a pig.

I have started to sand it out on my 4x36 and took too much off leaving a narrow blade, I will continue with it tomorrow as I have made the handle

Boy o boy, do I get into trouble

I have bought 4 proper forge bricks and surrounded them with my old bricks to make a forge, I am delighted with it, the 4 bricks cost £12 and shipping was the same in the UK.

Do I need a breather/air hole???????
