I built this knife for my son, Kevin Rowe, who enlisted in the Air Force in March
of this year. I used the colors from the Airmans uniform as a design feature. The knife is big [141/2"], the size matches my hopes and dreams for his success. The recess in the butt cap is waiting for a gold casting of the Air Force insignia, followed by some engraving with his name and the date.
The wild blue ferule is made from a bowling ball that I cut up with a
chain saw.{that dulled the edge in a hurry} The handle is stab. box elder.

Kevin is off to a good start by Aceing the 10 week course in broadband comm. that he just completed in Beloxi Miss. He is headed for Fort Gordon for the next fase of his training. Please pardon my doting. Fred

If you can reccomend an established engraver that would like to help finish this knife out, I would appreciate it.

I have not been very productive as I have been remodeling the shop. I should be back up to speed by the middle of August. I plan on posting a shop tour soon, so you will be able to tell that I have been busy and not just hanging out enjoying my retirement. I am doing that also. Fred

Very nice. I like the bowling ball ferule. A real nice touch.
I like to use stainless steel welding rods for my pinning material. i like using unsual items for handle materials too.

The work one does for people they love always seems to display some of their finest work. This is no exception, Fred, my friend. My best to you and Kevin who stands in the front lines for us. ---Sandy---

Thanks for the kind responces. I sent Kevin a link for this thread, he hasn't seen the knife yet and really can't keep it where he is stationed. He'll get his first view on line.
I hope you like it son. :)

If that Kevin don't like it this one would!! A real unique beauty Fred. I love it. In great admiration, kevin fox

I hope that knife stays within your family for many generations. It's gorgeous and will mean a lot to your son, and someday his kids.

Like others have said, please tell your son "thank you" for his service. And tell him especially that I said he better get you one hell of a well-thought out Father's Day or Xmas gift next year!! :D
