Does anyone know where I can get a new 48" or longer bowsaw? I've got a 36" saw but my arms are long and I can't get a full sawing stroke with it. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Dex,

I'll second the idea of getting the chain saw instead. Got my Pocket Chainsaw from supreme Products Inc. a year ago and its just great. Small, standard issue to the military, easy to clea and maintain, light weight, fast (cut a 6 inch diameter log in less than 2 minutes).

Just my 2cents.

Thanks for the ideas guys! I have one of the pocket chainsaws and like it a lot for situations in which light weight and compactness are important.

I haven't bought a full-size gas chainsaw, but will get a Stihl when I relocate to Alaska. However, I still think there's a place for a 48" bowsaw. They are good exercise and often the only thing you can take into areas designated as wilderness. Furthermore, I don't think the cost should be nearly as high as a gas chainsaw.

Thanks again and I'll let you know if I find a good deal in which others might be interested.

DWK - a gas chainsaw is more fun that the one you have operate manually :) Might want to look into Husqvarna and Echo while you're at it. I own products from both and they are very well built machines with reliable and easy to maintain engines.

I work as a landscaper to help pay for college, and some fun knives of course. I highly reccomend you look closely at Echo chainsaws as well. In my experience they work extremly well and last a long time, even if abused. I just bought ine for myself, and in my opinion they can't be beat.
