I ground this tiny box cutter today.

Any comments welcome! Criticism is helpful!

A couple of months ago I softened a couple of files in a campfire and today I started this. I still need to sand some more, some spots are uneven.

I just started knifemaking; need to spend more time to make this smooth. I don't plan on a handle for this so it needs to look good on its own.

It's cute and looks like it would be handy to have to open up a cardboard box or two by cutting through the tape holding the flaps down. It looks a little small so that it would be hard on the hands if a person had to use it a lot. Non the less, I'll bet it was a fun little project. Does it have two cutting edges? Did you plan this out or was it a case of having a random piece of steel that looked like it needed a cutting edge on it?

Paint it black and call it a "tactical" box knife with a tanto blade.

Thanks for the comments.

Yes it is very small so it would be handy yet it would wear you out if you used it a lot. It fits well between the thumb and forefinger so it is like having a knife extension of your thumb.

Yes, two cutting edges, bottom and front. The photos show it with the top up but you can use it upside down too.

I went out planning on making a tiny kiradeshi with very straight lines but it was a little plain so I did this. More fun that way!

Yeah tactical all the way! You never know when a zip tie is gonna sneak up on you in a dark alley. ;)

Thank you for the comments.

Sounds like a good idea, I want it all black.

After I treat it and clean off the scale and decarb do I just hit it with a soft flame?

oh if you're going to clean it up just buy some blueing chemical and leave it on till it goes black.

So just dont clean it up after heat treat then, I hear you.

I was going to etch it in ferric but your idea makes much more sense. I want that "forge" look not an etched look anyways.

Thanks!
