Hi all, I got my first CRK with wood inlay a couple months ago. I had not had a light wood knife before so I never thought a thing about jeans staining the scales. Here is a photo of them. I contacted Chris Reeve and they said not much to be done, other than wash with soap and water and apply some renaissance wax. I have some wax on its way. I have washed them with soap and water and used the pad of my finger to try and remove the discoloration with some success, all be it limited. Any suggestions out there without risking much damage, other than stop carrying it in my jeans! Should ijust keep washing with soap and water and a soft cloth and hope over time and with elbow grease it can be removed?

I wish I had answers for you. It's a beautiful knife nonetheless. I think that the box elder inlays are most attractive of them all, but I've shied away from them because they are more delicate.

I use lighter fluid to remove tape glue and most everything else that marks up a blade. Don't know if that can be removed with lighter fluid. It's a petroleum distillate that has naphtha in it.

Had a large 21 BE inlay. Same thing. I could never find a way to clean it off that seemed “safe”. Good luck!

Dark jeans will do this to any finish type really; bare titanium, micarta, etc. Over time and by wearing other types of pants it will wear itself in. The only way to totally prevent it would be to keep your knife in the CRK slip that they provide.

Mine may have the "slightest" on the bottom edge of the inlay.. I still cant tell for sure.. But I carry this with jeans both blue and black with no issues.. but I keep it away from the japanese denim.

For protection I used some Kamikaze Infinity wax I have - buit any car wax should work..

I don’t know of a way to clean the inlays without damaging them. If it bothered you that much perhaps you need to Remove & Replace the entire knife?
