Box Elder Chef's knife

Stabilized and lightly dyed box elder burl, then I did a light clear coat and fine sanded that and a gentle buff. It's sort of a light gloss effect rather than a high gloss.
The blade is a commercially produced AUS8 blade, not my work. I clean it up and handled it but the primary metal work is not mine.
 
I have some mammoth tooth root that looks much like this, but much heavier, more fragile and probably more costly. Very nice. Miles
 
lol, I imagine it's MUCH heavier. If anything, box elder burl is too light for my tastes. It doesn't have the exotic and rare appeal of mammoth either, that's for sure. I just really like the look. This was my fifth knife with wood from the same batch and I've been noticing that a lot of my favorites from other makers are also box elder in various dye jobs :)
Here's the only one I did the blade for as well. It's basically short paring knife sized from Aldo's 1084, 1/8" stock. It matches the chef's knife I gave my friend for Christmas and he decided he had to have it too, which got him started on wanting paired woods to fill out his kitchen knives.
