I’m contemplating ordering a 31 with box elder Burl. I have never seen or handled a box elder CRK. The pictures are beautiful from what I’ve seen.

Question 1- Are there visible pores in the wood like some other wood inlays? I would love it if box elder was hard almost enamel like.

Question 2 - If I ordered one directly from CRK (want silver hardware) would I be able to specify a shade like more reddish tone or darker?

Thanks in advance.

The box elder is stabilized, so it will be a hard polished surface on top. Other woods, such as bog oak and macassar ebony, are hard and stable enough that additional stabilizing is not only unneeded, but likely would be ineffective.

You can order direct and make a request, however you'll get what you get. Wood figure is the same as Damascus blades, there's a lot of variation and all of it is unique, but it's varied. I would recommend waiting for a dealer to get some Box Elder 31s in stock and then selecting your preferred inlay from there. If you absolutely want silver hardware you can send it back to CRK to swap it later.
