Don't know if this is the place to ask this... I suppose.... In my adventures I came across a guy who accumulated a number of Bucks as prizes in Trap Shooting contests (oldest was an 87 I think, newest a 93) and has never used or carried them. All are still in the original boxes...with paperwork and wrappers, even anti-moisture packs in some... Two or three fixed blades one in a 121 Sheath that seemed to fit, but wasn't a 121??(Don't understand that, cuz it was NIB, too...looked more like a Woodsman or Pathfinder). There were 2 110s (one a 1990 and the other I didn't look at) and one was an FG, but don't remember which one. There was also a 90 112 FG, a 303 or 301, and a very nifty and well-boxed small all-metal (alum handle with great and very shiny scroll work); think the number was 535, and the knife itself was in a small burgundy velvet sheath. And there was a wood-handled "Zipper" field-dresser. There was also one in a presentation box, so I'm thinking it was limited ed. (?), but I didn't write any of this down and I'm having trouble remembering the name. It was a pretty hunter with a wood handle. The name was on the top of the outer box. It was Iakuna or Maiakuna, something ending -kuna. I'd never heard of it before. I was hoping Joe could help me out with the name, age, whether it was a limited ed., and rough value in NIB condition? While I'm pretty up on 110/112 history, I must admit I'm not a full-blown Buck collector -- kind of a garbage can collector of many different brands, but mostly the much older American standard pocket knives. There were a couple other non-Bucks...one fairly nice custom hand-made hunter. I wasn't surprised when he turned down my offer of $150 for the box. I was surprised that he didn't come back with a counter price. (Maybe I offended him!) I really have no idea what that age-range is worth relative to today's new Bucks. If guys are finding 2008 110s at $24 and $26, I didn't think roughly $15 apiece was so bad buying them all in a lot...considering that 3 or 4 were little knives... You can all blast me for being such a cheap SOB, now.... but tell me what I should have offered. I would probably turn around and sell most of them on e-bay... and being Type A, I spend way too much time on my listings.... so netting $15 a knife for an hour or more work on a listing is hardly worth it. I suppose the clincher would be if the Something-kuna hunter was really limited and rare and sought after.... Any advice with attendant bad-mouthing would be appreciated... I still have his number and told him I might call him back....
Thanx,
Barry

Is he just trying to sell them off? OR is he also trying to sell for a profit? Trying to low ball him just to resell?:thumbdn:

Anyway if you offered me $150.00 JUST for the Akonua, I would be happy but if you offered me $150.00 for all of them? Yeah I would be ticked. Why waste his time?
The Akonua isnt really a LE knife but they were "the" knife years back, they are now discontinued, except for LE runs. Was it in the cheaper cardboard box? Wooden???

Even if you called back I probably wouldnt sell 'em to ya :D

The Zippers sell for over $50 NIB. Yeah you can buy a 2008 110 for around $30.00, but the FG models are more, and its hard to buy an older 110 for $30.00. 112 are more yet, at least they are here anyway.

I always try searching thE BAY in ended listings for approx. ONLINE values. That will give you a good idea of what they are going for. One thing I have noticed though is with gas prices and such, you may be better off investing money another way?

Good luck!

Hello NA,
Yea we really would need more details to give an accurate value on that box of knives. Basically, a NIB 402 Akonua seems to sell for about what you offered for the whole collection. Maybe more if it was red micarta. I would only be guessing on the rest of them without more details though.
Good luck! :)

Thanx for all the replies... I think I got all the info I really needed, considering the limited info I provided. I didn't really have time to thoroughly inspect them, so lost a lot of the details and was just going from memory -- which was just from yesterday noon. If I'd waited a day or two, I might have forgotten a lot more. I think the Akonua was in a wooden box in an outer cardboard sleeve, but I'm pretty sure it was a wooden handle, not Micarta. I kinda figured these were not quite old enough to have much "age" value, and you pretty much confirmed that. Now I'll have to ponder if I make him another offer, and as one of you suggested, he might not sell them to me anyway, now.
Later,
Barry

as my esteamed colleage says ... it is all about the knives...
ya arnt going to ask him to go steady right?

That is true... but at least be fair with the guy...

Its one thing to buy "items" and not get what is expected and then turn around and sell them BUT,

There's nothin' worse than someone who wants to screw ya to turn around and make a buck...:barf:

But thats also just (MHO) and YMMV. :)
