…and so much fun it is folks.
I have been a bf member awhile. I had to check to remember and it’s been over ten years now. That’s a chunk of my life as I am now 50 and looking at the rest with introspection…but I shan’t bore you with all of that.
I started out on the exchange as I became interested in gecs and their offerings early. Shelved my case 18 for a 33 for almost five years. Went through a few “phases” and nowadays I recognize what I like…and try to stay open to new possibilities in knives. Anyhow when covid came along I started getting more active than just the exchange and really enjoy this forum in particular. Great place to spend time ‘whittling away’ on my phone or tablet just to see what’s what in what I think of as ground zero for the traditional knife realm. I have no tactical knives, nor any interest in them, nor would I disparage anyone who does. I think knives are a great hobby to be involved in, and their history interests me greatly.
So, then, I watched the box of knives pass along and watched with some interest, and putting my name in the hat and getting drawn was quite the thrill for me. Upon arrival I was saddened to see not one Case knife! I will remedy that with a medium stockman which I think is one of the all time greatest patterns ever made. As my wife cooked dinner and my son played in the living room I sat at the counter pouring over them all. Some battered…some lightly used, some obviously cared for over their time in folks pockets.
Anyhow here is what I found up one opening the very taped up box of treasures:
…and after handling them all I chose to keep this Barlow. I don’t have a Barlow and have been thinking about getting one. I have always admired the clip 15s but I missed that boat! Anyhow this felt pretty close to me and it will do until I find a decent user 15 clip to replace it with someday. Someone obviously loved it for awhile, as it has been sharpened, and the snap is almost gone, but I just liked it. Sawcut delrin I think and a cool piece that I will carry…here is a pic:
Anyhow to add to the box I’m putting in a fisherman’s sak, a nice unused case 7 dot 6332, and a soligen utility knife complete with a handle signal mirror (this would be a great one for a Boy Scout) as well as a honing stone from a Randall I will never use (hope someone can find a use for it) and a leather ksf slip it fits in nicely. Here is a pic of my contribution to the box:
Anyhow a couple cool knives tempted me. A Gec 25 with an easy open cutout I am guessing was a custom job. Very well done it was but my fingers were to big to utilize it…and a gorgeous hen and rooster Congress in stag, but I’m a pinned shield snob and if I let myself get attached to that wonderful stag and the shield fell out it would break my heart! Really cool additions by our last box of knives winner Zachary. I think they were the nicest two pieces in there and am glad I got to see them as I have wondered about the 25 obsession many here seem to have, and had not seen a hen and rooster in the flesh either. Very nice pieces. I can see why the 25s are so popular now
. If that easy open notch was just a tad bigger
Anyhow with all that said here is the list as it stood from the last round. If anyone wants to be added post up and I will add you to it. I will let it run a week and and have the wife draw a name from the hat next weekend. Be well folks. Enjoy your weekend…sign up if you want a chance to pick over some knives - now the box is complete with a Gec and a Case!
