Hi everyone,
First post on this site - was hoping I could your opinions on something.

Found this old box set of Opinel knives today. Don't know how old it is or if they're even authentic. From what I've heard of Opinel knives, they're not really worth counterfeiting.

But the condition is incredible, and the blades are all razor sharp. Was just wondering if any of you know the set this is supposed to be, and when it was produced?

I've attached photos of the box and the blades.

Any help is welcome, thanks in advance!

Welcome to the forum! Just a heads up you need a gold membership or higher to ask about values. That's a pretty cool find btw.

Probably genuine.
They have offered that smallest to largest set for over 53 years. I remember seeing it advertised in magazines I read back in Jr. High and High School. (I graduated HS in 1974.)

To date them, there is a difference over the years in the printing on the handles.
I can't find that chart online ATM ...

Very nice set you have.

It's genuine to me. I'm not an Opinel specialist, but the red logo on the handle, I have not seen it in a while so it may be a decade old or more.

Looks like a genuine set to me, I have the other box set like the one pictured above. They are wonderful knives and very affordable.

That Beechwood box looks exactly like the one I have that has a large Horn fillet Opinel in it as a presentation.

Not a fake, no point . They make very sharp carbon and stainless knives out of the box so it's no surprise that they're sharp unused

Perhaps Jolipapa Jolipapa might know more abut exact dates ?

I'm no specialist and unfortunately I see no picture .
Other makers have used the same ferrule lock but they look clearly different. Opinel also used several different brands.
But as said before, I can't see the original picture, so... 🤷‍♂️

Thank you Arathol !
I see no reason to think these are fakes.
At the time the box would cost 150F or less, when a US$ # 5F... Lot of work, red period stamp et all, for a little profit...

Chui Chui : a good Savoyard would rather have a bottle of Genépi ! 😂

Howdy and welcome to the forum. That’s really neat, thanks for asking about it.

Wonder where that huge knife is now? I guess still at the factory. That’d be a neat find.
It’s my goin’ on a date knife, I throw it in my pocket on first dates, has never failed to impress yet, and a great conversation starter when I pull it out at the steakhouse to cut the meal, works better than the dull steak saws they give you.

It'd probably cost way more to fake an Opinel than a real one does.
