well i had all these boxes that knives came in lying around. put two and two together, and we get fun!

the contenders - all have been sharpened by me to excellent convex edges (sharp but not stupid sharp). the FSH required a lot of reprofiling to get sharp. that thing had one thick edge. i'm glad i have an extra course stone now. much better than sandpaper for heavy reprofiling. the mofo was difficult to convex. i probably didn't get a lot of the inside curve as much as i'd like, but it's still nice and sharp.

HR - went a good way through. didn't quite reach to the back of the box for the whole way, but a mostly clean cut.

FSH - didn't go as far as i thought it would, and the cut wasn't that clean.

mofo - bad ass. clean cut, over 3/4 of the way through. this knife is amazing. much lighter than the FSH while being almost as thick (somewhere around .01-.02" thinner) with similar balance. light with excellent heft. can't wait to take this chopping sometime next week.

what did you take the FSH to?

started with sandpaper and strop and spent a long time trying. then i got an extra course dmt stone. after a while on that, back to the sandpaper. it's pretty good now, but i'd like it a little sharper.

That mofo was very clean. You did a good job on it recurve and all. How sharp is the tip on the Hellraiser? The cut at the end of the stroke looks like the blade towards the tip may have wedged. It did good for its size, I think. Good choice to start on the course stone and move up with the fsh. I think if you tinkered with the FSH you could get it to perform almost as well or better then the mofo but I will say that I think the recurve does help with the drag cut especially on somehting like cardboard (don't know how else to describe it). Have you chopped with them yet with the reprofiled edges? I really like the fsh and mofo.

haven't chopped with them yet, but i plan on taking those 2 chopping sometime soon. the profile of the fsh is still significantly thicker than the mofo but i'm sure if the boxes were held down they would both have easily gone through. the HR tip is nice and sharp. i used the stone to continued the swedge all the way to the tip on it, so it's nice and pointy.

Cool. Didn't know they weren't held down. That makes more sense. Sorry, I'm an idiot.

You used the MoFo!! Congrats!! That thing is beautiful.

Tell us about the feel of the different handle styles? Notice anything? Impressions?

Hey bro -- NICE pics of a great test! Way to break that mofo in...

It's a doozy of a knife --- WAY underated among the Hogs, IMHO. Every now and then I wish it had one more inch of blade, but it's still the best all around camper/fighter/chopper/slicer/etc Busse ever made.

It won't quite hang with the FSH for chopping, but it'll be CLOSE. And when you consider the other things it does better, and that it looks SO DARN GOOD doing it, it's a no-brainer for me.

Some guys would argue for a smaller knife (like Tyrkon's NOe) and others say if going big, might as well take a FBM --- but for me, the mofo is the winner for all-around. It would be my 1 Busse if I couldn't have multiples (other than some of the crazy special old school stuff.)

And for all you uncle lovers and mr haters, you can always grind it off (of a user)!!! :D

Is that like a mother killer or father raper?

I agree, the MoFo/MoJo series is surprisingly effective as a general purpose knife. There may be others that do specific tasks more efficiently, but no other model I have used does all things as well. Sort of like INFI.

I have to dissagree a little with ya Eli... IMHO, I think the Uncle MoFo I had out-chopped the HH FSH I had. Way faster, more comfy and the recurve seemed to provide more bite!

sweet, that uncle is still chopping up a storm -- just chopped a load of wood with it Saturday!

I have a Swamp Rat Mini Mojo and it is a surprisingly good chopper, there is something about that recurve that makes them bite a little deeper.

For a relatively sheeple friendly blade size it can do a whole lot.

Pretty soon I'll have a Muddy Mojo to try out. I expect that it will do very well and the EU-17 style handle should feel great doing it.

yes, the mofo is way faster and lighter than the fsh with the same size and balance. the recurve seems to make up for less heft, but i'll be able to provide further opinions on this after i take them chopping

i would take the euro handle for chopping any day. it's mostly comfortable in almost any grip. the only thing i don't really like about it is the index finger groove. the sf handle is great for anything lighter than chopping, and i think i prefer it overall, but i do prefer skinny handles. i'm not a huge fan of the fusion handle, mainly because for me it's only comfortable held as far up as i can, leaving 2 inches of handle sticking out in the back. also, after extended use my hand tends to slide back on it and i have to reposition. i suppose i could try the lanyard idea.

agreed on the all arounder, it is the best all around knife i've ever used anyway. the handle makes it better than fsh for me.
