i've got a set of schrade knives as described in title. all stamped on bolster with number 3849. i would like any info on these knives. date, number of production, anything really. can't find another set to start dialing in on them. not looking to sell, just want to learn about them. thanks in advance.

additional info; silver bolsters, three pins holding scales, scales appear nearly black. all in a deep brown/maroon box with red lining. outer cardboard cover (sleeve) over box also has the 3849 marking and nothing else. inner two piece colored box says schrade cutlery corp. ellenville, n.y. 12428

Blt2go, a photo would help us a lot here. It sounds like a special factory order gift set for a merchant or an organization. Such sets were popular with Ducks Unlimited which usually auctioned them to raise wetlands funds and a few manufacturers who gave them out as promotional or reward items.

i can't attach pics. just took some and can't figure out if i'm not allowed or just too stupid to figure it out.

BLT - It is probably option 1 (can't figure it out), you are allowed to post pictures. You need to store them on a website like Photobucket, and then reference them using tags. There is an icon when you post for INSERT IMAGE. You paste in the website address into there. If we don't see the images soon, we will assume option 3 has kicked in... :D

There were some sets we've seen before that included these three lockbacks. Black sheaths, unetched blades.

If you get too frustrated, email me, or PM, I'll send you my email address and you can send your pictures and I'll post them for you.

thawk, thanks for the reply. sent you email so i can reply with pics. yes, these are unetched blades with black sheaths. no indicating markings as to publicity or advertisement use.

Here are Dennis LB Series, and I think these were some of the first of these patterns offered, but I'm not certain of that. The 3849 is a number marking them as a set. As in set 3849 of 5000 sets. It is just the set I was thinking of.

thanks so much for putting them up. i recently aquired them from a long time schrade collector. he couldn't remember exactly when he bought them, but was thinking it had to be late 70's early 80's. does that timeline sound correct? i also got an schrade uncle henry 124 uh, a case xx american spirit, and case xx 6265sab

just realized that by having you put them up, i was admitting to option 3 (too stupid) oh well, wife says worse...

The little LB-1 wasn't in catalogs until 1982. The same year the LB-5 appeared. So that is likely the very earliest for your set. I recall some correspondence about production of nickle-silver bolsters for the LB-5 and LB-7, but not much else.

thanks codger64, that's just the knowledge i was looking for. i kinda like to prep my nephews on their future inheritence and i do like to be accurate. i make notes in the boxes because i hope they won't remember this stuff that long! thanks again...

Thank you for sharing your knife pics. As a person who carries a LB7 day in and day out, I look at your collection with envy.

I am not a big Schrade collector, but they are my favorite knife to carry. I am leaning towards selling some of my other knives to buy Schrades. Your picture reinforces those thoughts.

Hoooooolllllly Cow, that is a superb collection. I went through the collection fairly quick, as we have company coming over soon.

Question: do you collect or have in your collection, LB7's and Little fingers? As I said I have not had enough time to look carefully. Thank you for taking the time to share the pictures with me. Rod

Hi Rod, I have a very late NIB 2003 LB7 and a very early NIB 4 pin LB7.
No Little Fingers - some Sharp Fingers - some with bone handles.
I started to collect 4" Schrade knives, in the early 1970's... Ken

Spent the last hour looking at your knives. What an impressive collection! Congratulations on the collection and your photography skills.
A few knives that really standout, for me: the 100 anniversary display, 2004 anniversary set, the 60T and 1080T pack and the 1540T Drop point hunter, which is the first one I have seen. I never knew about that model, but I am new to Schrades.
I really appreciate the knowledge you and Michael share.
Rod
