Boy’s Knife or similar style?

I’m growing an interest in the Tidioute Boy’s Knife. It got me wondering what recommendations members have for a custom made knife in that style?

Some have posted pics in the past but I can’t find a thread solely with custom recs.

Reach out to Mike Moran. His work is absolutely phenomenal and I believe he's currently taking orders. One of the last recovers I'm going to be doing in the next few weeks will be a sheepsfoot #15 that I'm going to completely rebuild into a shadow pattern with 410SS mill relieved liners and pivot bushing. I'm also going to try and clean it up to be flush in all 3 positions. ;) But like I said, Mike does excellent work. He specifically takes GEC patterns and turns them into custom masterpieces. :thumbsup:
 
Are you looking for with, or without, bail and chain?

Historically, the "boy's knife" was an inexpensive, 1 blade Clasp knife, or 2 blade jack knife, usually had "clam shell" construction; not real bolsters, liners, and wood/bone/stag or other covers.
They did have the same blades of the more expensive "adult" versions (with real bolsters etc.) of the same pattern by that maker.

Young boys were likely to lose their knives.
Why get an expensive knife?

Note that many budget concious adults bought and used a "boy's knife."

If without, the Imperial 278(?) Barlow, either Providence RI; Ireland; or the recent/current production BTI version is an historically accurate "boy's knife" without a bail and chain:
Inexpensive clam shell construction, same high quality blades as the more expensive Schrade, Ulsrer, Canillus, Old Timer and Uncle Henry Barlow knives with bolsters, bone, stag, wood, celluloid, or Delrin covers.
(Albeit the current production BTI has stainless steel blades, not the 1095 of the Providence RI and Ireland knives)

The classic "official" and unofficial BSA Scout Knives could also be considered a "boy's knife" since the target consumer was Cub Scout/Boy Scout age.
(plenty of adults bought "scout knives" to use, as well.)
Most (but not all) scout knives have a bail.

A pocket watch chain might make an acceptable knife chain.
 
Tend to agree, it's a bit of an odd choice for wanting a Custom version as it's a kind of thrifty or minimalist knife (originally) But knife lust knows no logic:thumbsup: :D

You could go for a re-handling job using the Tidioute as a platform, you 'll not be disappointed or look for an Eric's Jack from the now defunct Canal St. cutlery, some good Stag on those.

You’re speaking my language. I have a deep and abiding love for “Boys’ Knives” in all their many variations, from the old clamshell knives to their modern and much fancier descendants. I don’t own any customs, but I’m sure any maker could do this for you, as they are delightfully simple.
