I don't know if this is the right place so please move if necessary. Im looking for a Boy Scout knife for my 7 year old thats starting in the scouts. I have an older yellow handled =mperial but would like to find something smaller with nicer scales. Any suggestions or is anyone willing to sell or trade one? Are there new knives available?

Colonial is the new official maker but you can find good deals on the 'bay for any of the older ones, Utica, Ulster, etc...

How about a Swiss Army Knife? A basic one, like a Sportsman or a Recruit? These make PERFECT Boyscout knives, are easy to find, are about as good a quality knife as you'll find, and are inexpensive.

Perhaps a single bladed lockback would be a better choice just until he learns not to stab things. And they're easier for small uncoordinated fingers to open and close since there's minimal spring tension. Gerber makes a couple in the 3 to 3.5" closed range for less than $20.
Then he can move up to a good Swiss Army knife with more gadgets on it. I was in the scouts for 5 years with a Victorinox Huntsman and used the blades, saw, scissors and can opener on trips. The screwdrivers come in handy in an urban setting.

I've never been in the scouts, but as a young boy I spent a lot of time outdoors with my friends; fishing, making shelters and fires, that kind of stuff. All I had back then was a Swiss army knife that my parents gave me.

In my opinion any of those basic Swiss army knives would be an excellent choice for a boy scout. They can be bought brand new or second hand, are inexpensive, widely available and very common.
