Boys first knife.

He's only 2 but he knows daddy makes knives... for the last month or so he has been saying "daddy make my a knife" anytime I brought one in the house... so thought I'd make him one...

It is of course not sharpened with a blunt point but in all other ways is a real knife... the blade is 1084 tempered down to a 52 RC for fillet knife like resilience to take the worst a little boy might throw at it. She has a copper guard and a local montana blacktail stag handle with red linen micarta spacer... didn't realize I was out of copper pin stock till after I drilled the pin hole so the pin is epoxy.

The cutting edge is right at .012 thickness, about as sharp as a butter knife now but when he is older she will take a keen edge and he can take her out on our first hunting trip.

I like it... And when he is old enough, he'll reprofile it and put an edge on it to his liking I'm sure, and it'll be his most prized knife till the end of time... Well done sir...
 
That is a great idea- he will be able to grow up with that knife.

.... I've wanting to make myself a new EDC for a longtime... If i can ever find time between orders to make it a priority... I was thinking gun blue guard and curly maple but now I may have to just make myself one to match ... father son set.
