I'm looking for a couple of boys watches to give for Christmas. The boys range from 10 to 12 YO.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Mike

Last year I bought my 10 year old son an Timex ironman watch. It was in the smaller size (ladies/kids). It is black with a black rubber strap that has grooves so that any excess can be trimmed to size. Very durable watch with no problems so far. I think I bought it at Target.

My son really liked the ironman Timex watch as well...he actually wore out several during his preteen and teen years and I'm not sure he even took it off to shower. I think the only time he didn't wear it was when in a cross country or track meet (aren't allowed to carry a timepiece/stopwatch when running).
Now his cell phone is his watch, phone, alarm clock, and whatever else they can do. (He's 33 now)

A rubber-cased Casio G-Shock would also be a good choice, as boys in that 10-12 age range can be pretty hard on watches.

G shocks are so tough even my son couldn't kill one. great watch for the money especially the solar models since you don't have to change the battery.

G-shock Mudman so he can push the buttons in the shower/while swimming and not hurt the watch. I would def stick with either Timex Ironman or G-shock for a boy that age. I've always been a Timex man but have recently converted to G-shock, go figure.

Check out the Campmor web site. They usually have a good selection of kids' watches that won't break the bank.

I tried looking for a midsize g shock last night before I posted this . I couldn't find one. The Timex midsize ironman is perfect. I will look on campmor.
Thanks,
Mike

I bought my son the Timex expeditions, with the analog face with the digital insert, he loved that, had it all programed for beeping at all hours of the day. he killed the first band in about two months, but with a good band he made it last maybe 3 years, and at 29 dollars from wally world, it did not break my heart when killed it, I bought another and told him if he kept it till he graduated, I would buy him a better watch, now as a HS senior, he is asking for a titanium citizen, similar to mine, which has lasted for 7 years of daily construction work on my wrist, and it still buffs up looking like new.

I have one of those Timex Expeditions with the analog face and digital insert, except mine has a stainless steel band. It's a great watch. I've had it for about 5 years now.

Thanks for the replies,
Campmor has some awesome deals. A couple of Ironman's are on the way.

I would also recommend the Casio quartz and the lower end of the G Shock spectrum as highly durable and low drag. I own a bucket of watches, from Rolex to Breitling and the rule of thumb remains that the more they cost the less reliable and more costly to fix they are. Current favorites are Citizen Eco drives as they need no batteries and the MTM SpOps watches.

The inexpensive Timex Expeditions should be good. I believe you should get them an analog watch, rather than digital. 10 years from now, they'll thank you when they are capable of quickly reading a 'hands watch'. There's going to be a point in their lif when a digital watch just isn't appropriate.
