Hi all,

I have someone asking me to compare the HI to the Brigade Quarter Master Kuhkri.

I can't find a good solid review to reference, and I dislike claiming knowledge I don't have. Anyone out there able to give me a pointer?

What's a Brigade Quarter master khuk?

I thought you meant Burger King had a khukuri out now........
Brigade is a mail order outfit catering to law enforcement and armed forces. They used to have good deals, have gotten pricey. Don't know about a khuk from them- its a subcontract- maybe Ontario Knife?

I'll take a wild guess and say it's a Khuk being sold by Brigade Quartermaster(place that sells miltary surplus, "tactical gear", etc.

I thought someone mentioned though that BQM was merely selling some of those old khuiks that Atlantic(Atlanta?) Cutlery had gotten in earlier this year.

Thanks guys. That is exactly the one I was referring to.

Well Burger King does claim to make them "your way".

I've got a couple of HI and >used< to have the BQM Kukri you are referring to.

I say used to have, because compared to HI, the BQM kukri is little more useful than a machet for light vegetation - so I sold it.

HANDLES - HI wood or horn is much more comfortable than the groved and squarish kraton handle on the BQM

BLADE - HI are .3"+ convex compared to a very puny .188" on the BQM. The BQM can slice thin stuff like grass and vines, but it is not a good chopper.

PRESENCE - HI feels alive in the hand, the BQM feels like a lifeless piece of metal. Hard to explain but anyone who has handled both will know the difference. You could plainly put it down to balance and handling - the BQM just sucks in comparison to HI.

SHEATH - ok maybe this is the only redeeming point - I quite liked the cordura sheath, except that the BQM sheath is actually from the pattern of the Cold Steel LTC (when Ontario used to manufacture for them before Camillus took over)

... so don't waste your money on the BQM or even the Cold Steel Kukri - I have owned them all in the hope of getting a modern material "tactical" kukri - and HI just cannot be beat so far... till I one day make my own custom tactical kukri!

Ontario's first attempt was sent by me to cliff stamp many moons ago. It had, for lack of a better description, a reverse flat grind - that is to say that the spine started out thin, then thickened up to max thickness about a half inch above the edge.

If it hadn't been so funny.... Anyway, apparently they still don't have much of a clue.

Yes, but did would it look good hanging on a belt next to Levi Jeans? That's what's really important...

My one had a wavy flat grind - it worked but a machete or a Becker Patrol Machete was way better.

I visit lots of forums where people don't have that problem. And a few hang out around here. :D
