OK...
So I was at the AR Custom Knife show, wandering around and stumbled across two little girls sitting behind a great big table with a few knives on it. Duncan. Yeah,I heard of him. So I asked to pick them up and was granted permission.
Wow.
These are pretty nice.Next I see brad walking towards the table, and we talk knives for a few minutes..
The Upshot:
I wind up ordering one of his autos :D

I was wondering what you fine people have to say about this gentlemans wares... From what I saw they were top-notch. Clean, good grinds,SMOOTH,and a good, solid lock up.

Anyone have anything else to add?

I heard rumors that he is a monster:)

Bob, LMAO ;)
Maurice,I have a couple of Brad's before his whiplash days and both are very well made and rock solid.

Nothing much more to add- you have said it all. Brad is a top notch maker and his work is in great demand.

Re the SMOOTHness of his folders, this is due to the Bearing Pivot system that he uses.

Take care,

Neil

Got this from Brad at the last Chesapeake Knife Show; nice guy and *great* knife!

Got this one in a trade. Not what I wanted / was expecting, but kinda got "stuck" with it.

Sent it back to Brad for removing of the left-hand thumbstud. Made it MUCH more usable. Very sharp, very smooth, nice lockup. It's grown on me.

I had one in hand this fall: Super smooth, great fit and finish. But I am not a big recurve fan and most of his stuff seems to have that blade profile. He seems to use alot of BG-42 and recently started using his "sharpfusion" blade which is a stellite core with 440C outsides. I'd like to know if any here have this modified steel on their Duncans...Any feedback?
Regards,
Barry H

I am a big Brad Duncan fan. I think he makes some absolutely Gorgeous knives. Mike, the story behind THAT whiplash!!!! If the Docs put me nback together in time for Atlanta, bring that with ya. If THAT knife could talk!!!!

Every other Duncan I want is like trying to find a knife by Joel, SOLD OUT:( :(

I like Brad's knives alot. I've got an early SK, a sharpfusion whiplash and a Duncan/Pirela X-Pert. Nice fit and finish and smooth smooth smooth.

Here is a pic of my X-Pert. Mine is the one in black linen micarta. The only one of the 10 in micarta.:D

I got one of the first Whiplash D/A's he made with the Sharpfusion which I would like to make a correction from a previous post above is made with ATS34, and stellite, and it has been the knife I have carried daily since I got it in Spetember of last year. I have cut many things with it(cardboard, paper, string, rope, plastic bottles, plastic ties, etc.), and have been really impressed in how well it holds an edge. I tried all those things to compare it with my talonite bladed knives of which some are also custom knives. I was so impressed that I called Brad on the phone, and we had a lengthy discussion about it, and details of how the sharpfusion was done, and what he had planned for the future in trying different steels other than ATS34

I really like the Sharpfusion idea, and I can say it is a bear to sharpen but with diamond rods makes it alot easier.

I highly recommend his knives, and he is a great person to talk to.

This is a nice thread. Thanks for all the positive feedback and pics.
It has been great to be able to travel all over the country and meet all the people who make this buisness possable.
This year will be no diffrent.I am still waiting for any last minute cancelations for the New York show. I will be there no matter what.
Anyway.Maurice,It was nice to meet you and thanks for the order.
Neil, You are a great customer and I hope you can make it to the new york in 12 days.

After 20 months of waiting on a custom knife from Brad (for which I had paid in full - up front) and after repeated attempts to contact him; I got a email from the guy to whom he had farmed out his web site. I was infromed that Brad had guit making knives and jumped town without informing anyone. That he had not informed any of his customers (he certainly had not contacted me) and that he planned no refunds. If Brad is reading this and he feels it is wrong, I would appreciate the chance to talk with him. If not he has taken a lot of money from a lot of people, promised much and delivered nothing. Filing bankrupcy is one thing but just taking money and not delivering is another.

I just finished reading the lonnng list of collectors who had complaints against Brad ..... I don't understand why anyone would support such a cheat by buying his knives from him or a dealer. I for one won't ever buy one ! I will also spread the word around whenever his name is brought up. Makers like this HAVE to be exposed to the community for what they are. I'll certainly do my part.

Brad Duncan is a thief and an outright liar!! Hopefully He is done.:grumpy: If not I will always post that He is a thief so people that do not know of his Robbing/thieving ways will so they don't get screwed like the rest of us!!:thumbdn::thumbdn::thumbdn::thumbdn::thumbdn:

Most makers don't even take a deposit, Let alone paying in full. There's no reason for this:thumbdn:

The link to his web site in his post above does not work for me.

Secondly, his post above represents more communication in one shot than he has had in the recent past.

He managed to make the "Hall Of Shame" in the GB&U sub forum on this site.

You would be well served to study your lesson before buying his wares either direct or from a dealer.

The name Brad Duncan didn't ring a bell with me, so I checked the table list for last year and can't find a table listed for him. Called David Etchieson and he don't remember him either, so it kinda looks like Brad was either brown bagging or sharing a table with someone, neither of which is allowed at the Arkansas Show.

PEOPLE!! FFS....this thread was started in 2002. Chuck7 is a newbie, and while bumping this thread is legit, kinda, would have been better served in the GB&U.

Duncan flushed his rep in the toilet years ago.
