I have a preference for tip down and that is what I'm use to. Since the Southard does not come with this option I thought I should add it using the same clip. Also acid etched / stonewashed and took off the sharp edges on the clip. Doesn't show up well in this photo but it came out well. IMO
Hope you like the mod.
This is the most perfect knife for EDC for me. Wanted a good quality steel and a blade not over 3.5" Also looking for bearings in the pivot and a flipper. Spyderco and Brad Southard hit a home run with this one. Just got this knife 4 days ago and my ZT 0550, Sebanza and all the others are taking a rest.

I think most flipper knives work better tip up, how are you liking tip down with the flipper?

With tip up I am grabbing the bottom of the knife and have to slide my hand up to get any knife in position to open. With tip down I am grabbing the top, where my hand should be and I let it rotate into my palm. Now ready to open. The only concern was that the flipper is now near the side of my pocket. Was not sure if it would start to open if the flipper rubbed against the side of my pocket. I believe this might be the reason they do tip up. Maybe a liability issue. I have found no problems carrying this way, as the knife has a strong detent. It's all about personal preference. For me I am more comfortable this way. If any one is going to change theirs, using the same screws they are 2mm x 0.4 thread.

I was reading a thread about the lowrider clips for the BSF (Brad Southard Flipper) and the guy who makes those cool low rider clips said it was tough to find screws that worked. Will the 2mm x 0.4 screws work with the stock holes? If so, I might have to try ordering a clip for this fantastic knife.

Yes. See the last sentence above. I personally don't think that a low rider clip would work well with a tip down flipper. Just my opinion. I have made many low rider clips for my own knives where I felt they would work well. The one below is my Para.

Thats a nice looking clip. You should be selling them.

On all non flipper knives I prefer tip up. But on flippers it is a more natural motion to present with a time down.

How is it in your hand? Does it get in they way? If not I wonder why it doesn't come like that from spyderco.

The palm of my hand, under my pointer finger, sits right in the belly of the clip. I find it very comfortable and don't even know the clip is there unless I think about it. It even aids in the grip. IMO
re: Why Spyderco doesn't make it this way? A low rider clip, I feel, is more work. I added the holes not so much for design but so you can get at the pivot and the third screw in the clip with ease.
Low rider clips are not for everyone but seem to be getting more popular with many.

Sorry. You question being under the Para clip I thought you meant that one.
The Southard clip being change to tip down doesn't bother me at all. It's still comfortable to grip.
I mentioned before that since its a flipper, Spyderco might feel that when you draw the knife from your pocket, you might put pressure on the flipper and the blade might start to open, when in the tip down position. I have not found this to be a issue. Have EDC this knife for weeks now. I'm use to tip down. For me I don't have to think about how to open the knife when I draw it from my pocket.
