So I’m looking into getting my first Guardian 3. I’m usually a folder guy but looking for a small fix blade to carry in my fishing backpack. I freshwater fish and we hike in various areas. Knife will NOT be used to filet fish or anything.

Been looking at both the 3V and Rex 45.

Thoughts between both for this particular model?

Thanks

I know you won't use it to fillet or anything but being around the wet and humid environment for fishing, have you thought about choosing a steel that has better corrosion resistance? Bradford makes a G3 in M390 which might make more sense.

If you want to save a few dollars, maybe even a White River M1 backpacker in S35VN?

I live in the desert. Never humid here, but M390 is always an option. I’m a fixed blade novice (besides Esee’s and Becker’s) but I’ll check out the White River M1. Thanks.

Really, you could use either steel without worry to fillet or in wet conditions. I'd go with 3V -- incredibly tough, corrosion resistant. Just wipe it off.

Although you probably take good care of your knives, when I see a knife that will be around water and fishing, corrosion resistance takes on a tad more importance to me.

I should have mentioned this in my first post. If I had to choose between Rex 45 and 3V as in your original question, I'd choose 3V.

The M1 is just a cheaper alternative knife that I've been impressed with. If you want a Bradford, go for it.
